Taking advantage of technology, the Foundation organized a virtual lecture session focused on the topic “Saan Nagmula Ang Pangalan ng mga Barangay sa Calatagan?” launched via Facebook live and attended by students, teachers, local government employees and officials, and other local residents. The video and posters we shared online reached an almost 27K audience. Ms. Thessa Hernandez, one of the public high school teachers from Calatagan shared the results of her research study as part of her doctoral degree requirement. Based on her sharing, the names of each barangay originated and came from four major categories: Likas na Yaman/ Kapaligiran, Kuwentong Bayan, Pangalan ng Tao at Kilos o Aksyon ng Tao.
Of the 25 barangays in Calatagan, 14 barangays derived its names from the likas na yaman at kapaligiran, while 5 barangays derived their community’s name from Kilos o Aksyon ng Tao and the rest were from the last 2 categories. Although the session was done virtually, ENZOTech teachers were encouraged to participate physically in the event and attend wearing Filipiana or Filipino attire during the lecture series session as it coincided also with the Buwan ng Wika celebration. A special token was awarded to the teacher who best represented authentic Pinoy attire.
